The tournament, a WBSC Baseball World Cup qualifier, has been underway at the Boksburg Baseball Club since Friday, 17 January 2025. This event is a crucial step for teams aiming to earn a spot in the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2025, scheduled to take place from 5 to 14 September 2025 in Okinawa, Japan. Despite wet fields delaying the start on Day 1, the games have proceeded smoothly. South Africa began their campaign with two strong wins over Zimbabwe, securing victories of 19-1 in both games on the opening day.
On Day 2, the momentum continued as South Africa extended their winning streak with two more dominant performances, winning 24-3 in Game 3 and 22-0 in Game 4. Tournament Director and South African Baseball Vice President Patrick van Niekerk has ensured the smooth running of the event, with all operations efficiently managed. Team Manager Lindi-Leigh Erasmus has been supporting the South African team, who are in good spirits as they maintain their unbeaten record. Head Coach Dean McKinnon must be pleased with the team’s impressive performances throughout the tournament.
