Day One of the Africa Baseball5 Championships saw South Africa get off to a good start as they beat Uganda 2-0 in a tough encounter in in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania this Monday.
With South Africa new to the format the result showed just how much work has gone into the preparation in days leading up to the event. Under the guidance of Coaches Americo Juma and Hailey Hayley Scott with Captain Mariska Barnard Vice-Captain Aiden Bartes leading from the front.
Reports from Tanzania is that the team is in good spirits and flying the flag high for South Africa.
With the team in good spirits and flying the flag high South Africa now goes on to face hosts Tanzania who set the pace on Day One of the first ever Baseball5 African Championship, which is a qualifier for the WBSC Baseball5 World Cup, after claiming three wins from three games to top Group B with Kenya close behind with two wins from two. Tunisia and South Africa lead Group A with one win a piece.
The continental championship will send the top two finishers to the inaugural WBSC Baseball5 World Cup. And will see a total of 29 games with eight games per day with the semifinals and finals set for the last day on 26 May.
