SA get started at World Baseball Classic:

Seven days since departing South Africa and various other international destinations, Team South Africa finally gets their first game at the World Baseball Classic Qualifier underway. South Africa plays the opening match of the 2025 World Baseball Classic at the prestigious Taipei Dome in Taipei, Taiwan, this Friday, 21 February 2025. Game time: 06:00 South Africa time.

The team started the tour with a pre-camp in Tainan, playing three warm-up games against two local teams and a professional team before departing for Taipei this past Wednesday. The week included the South Africa team’s practice session at the incredible Taipei Dome. The indoor dome brings an electric atmosphere.

Team South Africa has been galvanizing themselves for this major event and has done so in typical South African spirit, including the traditional team capping ceremony. Coach Neil Adonis officially presented his team to the Vice President of South African Baseball Patrick van Niekerk, who presided over the event, while South African Baseball President Dr. Marc Moreau presented the players and coaches with their caps.

A highlight of the evening was the reading of messages from family, friends, and fans from back home and across the world.

South Africa plays three matches, with the first match against Nicaragua on Friday, 21 February 2025, followed by a night game against Chinese Taipei on Saturday, 22 February, and the final game against Spain on 24 February 2025. All matches will be crucial for South Africa in order to progress to the final game on 25 February, with the second- and third-placed teams looking to secure one of the top two qualifier positions, as the top two teams qualify for the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
