The South African National Baseball Championships (NBC) 2025 officially got underway today in Cape Town, kicking off ten days of exciting provincial baseball action. The tournament is hosted across three well-established local clubs — VOB Macaws, Lansdowne Baseball Club, and Battswood Baseball Club — all proud affiliates of Cape Town Baseball under the Western Cape Baseball Association.
A pre-tournament managers’ meeting was held last night at Battswood Baseball Club, where logistics and final details were confirmed. Baseball South Africa President, Dr. Marc Moreau, was in attendance and offered a message of support to the teams, wishing them well ahead of the competition’s official start.
This year’s NBC is split into two phases. The Junior NBC, running from 2 to 6 April, features mixed teams in the U10, U12, and U15 categories, while U18 players compete in separate boys’ and girls’ divisions. The Senior NBC follows from 8 to 12 April, with both men’s and women’s teams contesting national honours. Each phase concludes with a dedicated finals day.
The tournament has drawn strong participation from around the country. Free State, Limpopo, Eastern Cape, Gauteng, Mandela Bay, and Western Cape are all well represented, with a healthy mix of returning talent and first-time participants. Gauteng Provincial Baseball Council (GPBC) has entered a large roster, including multiple boys’ teams across age groups and girls’ teams in U15 and U18. Free State, Limpopo, and Eastern Cape have brought strong numbers, showing their growing investment in youth development and national competition.
The mood on day one was upbeat, with teams arriving, settling in, and getting in light practice sessions ahead of tomorrow’s first round of junior fixtures. With ten days of baseball ahead, the stage is set for a tournament full of memorable moments, great plays, and rising stars.
NBC 2025 is now officially underway — and Cape Town is ready to deliver a spectacular edition of the country’s premier baseball event.
