The South African U12 Baseball team held a successful national training camp from 14 to 16 June 2025 in Benoni, Gauteng, as part of their final preparations for the upcoming WBSC U12 Baseball World Cup in Taiwan. The camp took place at the Benoni Indians fields, with players accommodated at the nearby 9th Benoni Scout Hall. All meals, transport, and logistics were coordinated to ensure a well-organised and focused weekend of training.
The camp officially began on Saturday morning, 14 June, with players arriving early via flights from Cape Town and other regions. Over the three days, the team followed a structured programme of field sessions, technical drills, and team-building activities. The weekend concluded on Monday 16 June with a final training session and a light lunch before players returned home.
The coaching and management staff for the weekend included Head Coach Shawn Schwartz (Gauteng), Assistant Coaches Quinton Amos (Western Cape) and Alroy Savides (Gauteng), and Head of Delegation Anita Hains (Gauteng). The staff oversaw not only the training content but also managed player welfare, off-field logistics, and parent communication.
The players in attendance were Quiwinn Adams, Riley Coleman, Maahir Taliep, Seth Hains, Luke Bailes, Troy Branders, Luke De Lange, Blaine Sawyer, Evan Grobler, Rebone Mphahlele, Jonathan Stacey, Sebastian Savides, Abulele Sotyato, Kaleb Amos, Jarred Long, Casey Uys, Mosa Mphahlele, Samkelo Sagwar, Mason Sage, Kaden Africa, and Nate Lerwill. These players represent six provinces and form the core squad selected to travel to the World Cup.
This June camp served as an important checkpoint in the team’s journey, covering technical preparation, uniform fitting, team strategy sessions, and administrative planning. With just over a month to go until departure, the team is entering its final phase of preparation.
A final pre-tour camp is scheduled from 19 to 22 July 2025. This camp will be used to consolidate tactical preparation, reinforce squad unity, and complete all logistical arrangements before the team departs on 23 July for Taiwan to represent South Africa on the international stage.
