South African Baseball Announces Team for WBSC Africa Youth Baseball5 Championship

South African Baseball is pleased to announce the selection of its team for the upcoming WBSC Africa Youth Baseball5 Championship, scheduled to take place in Cape Coast, Ghana, from 16 to 21 May 2023. The event also serves as the qualifier for the youth Baseball5 World Cup, which is set to be held in December of this year.

“We are excited for the team to go and fly the flag for South African Baseball,” said Marc Moreau, President of South African Baseball. “South Africa has already shown its dominance on the African continent and that we are a force to be reckoned with at the world level.”

The team comprises Mia Cloete, Kelly Duke, Ethan Grobler, Alisha Kruger, Sibusiso Masinga, Kay’D Shay Naude, Ishaan Slamdien, and Marnus Vorster, while Luke Bremer, Tyla-Rae Cooke, Ntokozo Makhubela, and Phumelele Sibeko will serve as non-traveling reserves. The management team is headed by Coach and Team Manager, Americo Juma, while Nicolette America will be the Assistant Coach, and Hayley Scott-Maree will serve as the Head of Delegation.

South Africa is the current seniors Africa Champions, having secured the African Championships title in Tanzania and successfully competed in the WBSC Baseball5 World Cup in Mexico in 2022. The team is looking forward to the competition and is ready to showcase their skills on the field.

“The South African Baseball Union wishes the team all the best in their quest for victory, and we are confident that they will do the country proud,” added Moreau.
