This past weekend, South African baseball enthusiasts came together to celebrate Heritage Day in a unique and exhilarating way.
The country witnessed an array of provincial championships as districts from all corners of South Africa converged on the baseball diamond. Not only were they competing for the prestigious title of provincial champion, but they also commemorating our South African Heritage.
In the Western Cape, the Junior Division saw Cape Winelands emerging victorious against the Cape Town Baseball Federation (CTBF) in both the U/12 and U/15 categories. In the U/12 category, Cape Winelands secured a 2-1 victory, while in the U/15 category, they triumphed with a score of 2-0 over CTBF.
In the Senior Division, Cape Winelands continued their dominance by defeating CTBF B with a convincing 2-0 score. The senior match between CTBF A and Cape Winelands was closely contested, resulting in a 2-1 victory for Cape Winelands. The Western Cape Champs saw coaches Coaches: Saville Van Rhyn and Alreeck Conradie from Cape Winelands and CTBF coaches Reece Groenewald u/15and Rene Ernzsten u/12 with Western Cape Baseball 5 Commissioner Nicci America in support.In Gauteng Province, the championships took place at Hoerskool Montana, promising an action-packed day filled with intense baseball competition. It was undoubtedly a memorable day for baseball enthusiasts in Gauteng under the guidance of Gauteng Baseball 5 Commissioner Jason Bell.
The Limpopo Region also witnessed its District Championships, contributing to the overall success of South African baseball. Players from various clubs, schools, and backgrounds came together to participate and gain valuable experience. The event added to the growing momentum of the sport in the region.
These provincial championships exemplify the growing popularity and passion for baseball across South Africa. It was a weekend filled with fierce competition, unity, and a celebration of the country’s rich heritage.
