Gauteng Baseball Selection Tournament Begins for Provincial Teams

The Gauteng Provincial Baseball Council this week announced the commencement of selection tournaments that will help identify and nurture young talents for the upcoming Provincial teams, as they prepare for the South African Baseball Championships to be held at the Mandela Bay Baseball Club in the Eastern Cape in April next year.

The event includes teams from four of the five Districts in the Gauteng Province, namely Sedibeng, Tshwane, Easterns, and Johannesburg Central.

This initiative spans several months, with the first leg taking place the first week of October. It will continue in December, and another selection round is scheduled for January. The objective is to identify promising players who will be invited to trials for the Gauteng teams that will represent the province at the prestigious NBC (National Baseball Championship) next year.

The selection tournaments will kick off this weekend at the Benoni Baseball Club, where players aged U10, U12, U15, and under 18 will showcase their skills and potential. These events provide a crucial platform for young baseball enthusiasts in the Gauteng Province to demonstrate their abilities and vie for a spot on the Gauteng teams.

These tournaments are an opportunity for young athletes to prove their dedication and passion for the sport. Players will have the chance to catch the eye of selectors, who will be on the lookout for those who exhibit exceptional promise.

Said GPBC President Dean Mckinon, “Being selected for the Provincial teams is not only a tremendous honor but also a vital preparation step for the NBC.

All are welcome to attend the selection tournaments at Benoni Baseball Club to witness the young baseball stars of tomorrow in action. The tournaments offer a fantastic opportunity for families and baseball enthusiasts to support and cheer for their local talent.
