South African Baseball Championships 2024 gets underway in Gqeberha.

The annual South African National Baseball Championship 2024 is set to take place from 22 March 2024 to 2 April 2024 in Mandela Bay, Gqeberha. The event, in the Eastern Cape, presented by Mandela Bay Baseball and hosted by the Londt Park Tigers Baseball Club, will feature over forty teams from across the country.

The championships will commence with the Junior segment for four days starting on Friday, 22 March 2024, in a round-robin format, with the Junior Finals on 26 March 2024, followed by the Senior segment from 28 March to 1 April 2024, also played in a round-robin format.

The event comes after months of preparation by the provinces in South African Baseball, with a major drawcard being that the provincial winners of the U12, U15, and U18 divisions will secure their positions in the International Little League Euro Africa Championships set for Kutno, Poland, later this year.

The South African Baseball Championships is unique in that a number of the teams, ranging from as young as under ten, will see mixed-gender teams take to the field. With additional divisions including Boys and Girls U15, Under 18, Under 23, and Seniors Men and Women in Baseball.

The event brings together the players, coaches, and managers, and a host of administrators such as scorers and umpires who will be working hard behind the scenes for the ten days to ensure the successful running of the events and statistics.

Mr. Marc Moreau, President of South African Baseball, stated, “The South African National Baseball Championships is the pride and joy of South African Baseball, with a longstanding tradition as the ultimate annual event. It serves as the primary showcase for our sport, with participation from teams across South Africa, from the Cape Winelands to Limpopo, and as nearby as OR Tambo.”

The event is a key opportunity for fans and supporters to witness the competitive spirit and skill level of baseball within South Africa. The Londt Park Tigers Baseball Club, situated at the Londt Park Sports Complex, invites the public to attend and support their local teams.
