This week marked the conclusion of the South African Baseball 5 training camp, where players vied for selection in the Africa Baseball5 Championships set to take place in Praia, Cape Verde, from 5-10 February 2024.
The final training camp spanned two days in Gauteng, Edenvale, with 18 players attending from Limpopo, Gauteng, and Western Cape. The camp, a two-day event that commenced on Monday and concluded on Tuesday, provided coaches and selectors with an opportunity to make their final assessments before announcing the eight players selected for the senior SA Baseball5 national team. Alongside the starting lineup, the selectors will also reveal the names of four non-traveling reserves.
The competition level among these players reached an elite performance standard.
South Africa, the current Baseball5 Africa Championship defender, is eager to secure a coveted spot in the II WBSC Baseball5 World Cup. The tournament is scheduled to take place at The Central Harbourfront Event Space in Hong Kong, featuring 12 participating teams in late 2024.
