South Africa Win WBSC African U18 Championships – qualify for WBSC World Cup

 

South Africa capped off a spectacular performance at the African U18 Baseball Championships with a commanding 16-2 victory over Zimbabwe in the final game, played as a full seven-inning match. The day’s prizes were handed over during the closing ceremony by Mr. Vivienne Lottering, President of the Gauteng Sport Confederation, in recognition of the players’ efforts and the tournament’s success.

Throughout the competition, South Africa showcased their dominance with a series of outstanding results. On Day 1, they opened their campaign with two emphatic wins, beating Zimbabwe 19-1 in both games. On Day 2, the team extended their streak with even more decisive victories, defeating Zimbabwe 24-3 and 22-0.

The tournament was hosted at the Boksburg Baseball Club, which played a key role in ensuring the event’s success. Under the leadership of Chairman Gavin Watkins, the club ensured the fields were in excellent condition and that all logistical needs were met, even overcoming initial challenges like wet fields on Day 1. Their dedication, on behalf of South African Baseball, was integral to the smooth operation of the championships.

With the qualifiers now complete, the South Africa Under 18 team turns their focus to the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup, scheduled for 5 to 14 September 2025 in Okinawa, Japan. Their exceptional performances at the African Championships have set a strong foundation for their upcoming challenge on the global stage.
