After three tough days, our South African Baseball5 side has made it into the semi-finals of the African Baseball5 Championships in Dar es Salaam Tunisia.
Day three saw South Africa go down to Ghana but then bounced back strongly to beat Burkina Faso 2-1 thereby securing their semi-final place on the fourth and final day.
South Africa now faces Tunisia in the first match and will face semi-finalists either Kenya or Uganda. A win for South Africa will see them go into the Gold Medal finals and a guaranteed place in the first-ever WBSC Baseball5 World Cup in Mexico.
South Africa will have their work cut out for them when they face Tunisia who will be looking to bounce back after losing to South Africa on day two.
This is already a remarkable achievement for South Africa and South African Baseball considering the short preparation window prior to departure.
The Baseball5 is a fantastic introduction to the sport of Baseball with a unique format that sees teams made up of male and female athletes and allows for easy participation considering that no equipment is needed.
