South Africa Women’s Baseball continues to build strong international momentum, with three junior age groups invited to participate in the Baseball for All tournament in Chicago, Illinois, with games taking place in Rockford.
South Africa will be represented across the Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18 age groups, highlighting the growing recognition of the country’s women’s baseball programme on the international stage.
Player selection was based on performances at the South African National Baseball Championships held in Boksburg, Gauteng, where the tournament served as a key identification platform. Athletes competed in the Under-15 and Under-18 divisions, with selectors identifying talent for international participation.
It is worth noting that many of the selected players also participated in the recent Uganda “Rising Stars” and Zimbabwe tours, bringing valuable international experience into this next phase of competition. This continuity strengthens the squads and reflects a clear pathway within the programme, where players are progressing through structured national and international opportunities.
The tournament, founded by Justine Siegel, has become one of the leading global platforms for girls’ baseball and continues to attract teams from around the world.
The Rockford leg of the tournament carries added significance, with the area known for its rich baseball history, including its association with the original Rockford Peaches. For many of the South African players, this will be their first exposure to international competition of this scale in the United States.
This tour represents a key development opportunity, providing South African players with high-level competition, international exposure, and continued growth within the national women’s baseball pathway. This is a major step forward for women’s development in sport in South Africa.
The team is also seeking support ahead of the tour, and anyone able to assist, whether through large or small contributions, is encouraged to support the national group through their Back a Buddy campaign. Click here to support now
