All eyes will be focused on our South African Baseball5 U18 team as they compete in the WBSC Africa Southern Region Championships hosted in Limpopo this weekend. Behind the scenes, it’s been an all-hands-on-deck affair as the players, coaches, and administrators have been kept busy not only preparing for the tournament but also assisting with the event setup. The team gathered in Johannesburg on Wednesday and from there set off to Polokwane to settle in. Leading from the front is Head Coach Americo Juma, Assistant Coach Reece Groenewald, and HOD Hayley Scott-Maree.
The team has now joined up with the senior national Baseball5 team, who has come to support and will also be participating in an exhibition match. This special match is part of a fundraising effort for their upcoming trip to Hong Kong, where they will compete in the WBSC Baseball5 World Cup. Anyone looking to support the team can do so by contributing on their Back a Buddy platform. Any donation big or small is greatly appreciated and additionally South African Baseball supports the team with several sponsorship reciprocal opportunities available.

The event sees multiple countries from Africa participating and, as with most amateur sports, has faced several challenges to get to where they are now. Not only have the coaches and administrators been hard at work, but everyone has also been kindly supported by proud parents.
The next three days will see each nation play no less than three matches each day, with the final day seeing the semifinal, silver, and gold matches.
Not only will the team be playing for the African Title, but also for various other accolades such as Male and Female Player of the Tournament, and Most Disciplined Player. This event promises to bring our national baseball structures event closer together and is set for loads of fun and excitement while our players and supporters again fly the South African flag proudly.
