The South African Baseball All-Stars Elite Training Camp week officially got underway this past Sunday, bringing together the country’s top coaches and players from across South Africa to Cape Town. Hosted at multiple venues over the course of the week, the camp aims to prepare athletes for upcoming international tournaments, including the prestigious World Baseball Classic Qualifiers in Taipei, Taiwan, in February 2025, as well as the WBSC U18 World Cup later in the year.
The opening session of the camp took place at Bellville Baseball Club, home of the Tigers, where South Africa’s National Seniors Head Coach, Neil Adonis, led an intense training session. Players from across the country were in attendance, eager to impress and secure their spots on the All-Star roster. The day also included a meeting of elite coaches after lunch to finalize draft strategies for forming the four All-Star teams.
This year’s All-Star week will feature four teams, each named after iconic Major League Baseball franchises. The Yankees, led by Dean McKinnon, the Brewers, under Gavin Bennett’s leadership, the Red Sox, headed by Darren Smith, and the Dodgers, coached by Neil Adonis, will all be vying for dominance in what promises to be an exciting week of games and elite-level training.
