Day 1 of the U23 WBSC African Baseball Championships took place in Boksburg with two matches officially opening the continental qualifier under WBSC Africa. The event runs until 2 November 2025, serving as the African Qualifier for the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup 2026, which will be held in Nicaragua.
In the opening game, Zimbabwe recorded a 12–4 victory over Benin, showing control throughout the innings to secure the first win of the tournament.
Game 1: Zimbabwe 12 – Benin 4
The second game of the day saw South Africa deliver a dominant performance, defeating Benin 24–0. The game was called after five innings under the mercy rule, with South Africa scoring consistently across all innings: 3, 3, 7, 6, and 5.
Game 2: South Africa 24 – Benin 0 (mercy rule after 5 innings)
The championships continue in Boksburg on Friday, 31 October 2025, as teams look to build on their opening performances in the race to qualify for the 2026 WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup.
