South African Baseball this week announced the formal inclusion of the Lesotho Baseball and Softball Federation (LSBS) as an associate member of the South African Baseball Union.
The announcement, made by South African Baseball President Mr. Marc Moreau, comes after much deliberation with LSBS and forms part of the South African Baseball vision to foster the growth and unity for all Baseball Federations in Africa.
The Lesotho Baseball and Softball Federation, officially formed in 1996 with its headquarters in Maseru, is headed by LSBA President Tseliso Lemphane and is a fully recognized World Baseball and Softball member under the guidance of LSBA president.
The newly formed relationship will see South African Baseball with a committed approach to helping LSBA develop the game of Baseball and Baseball 5 and provides LSBA with access to several South African Baseball resources, including committees, clinics, and tournaments.
The announcement follows on from the recent announcement which sees international ties between The Dominican Republic and South African Baseball. South African Baseball President Mr. Marc Moreau this week formally wrote to President Lemphane to welcome him and his team on board and said SABU is honored to have LSBA join the South African Baseball family and looks forward to a long and fruitful relationship with several exciting opportunities.
The membership falls in line with South Africa and the Kingdom of Lesotho’s signature to the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) treaty, which recognizes the need for stronger Regional Integration throughout Southern Africa to further the development of the region.
