SA U12 Baseball Team Announced for 2025 WBSC World Cup in Taiwan
South African Baseball has officially announced the national U12 team that will represent the country at the 2025 WBSC U12 Baseball World Cup in Tainan City, Taiwan, taking place from 25 July to 3 August 2025. The tournament is one of the premier international youth baseball events, bringing together the top 12-and-under teams from around the globe to compete at the highest level.
The South African team will face world-leading baseball nations in a packed 10-day schedule hosted at the Tainan Asia-Pacific International Baseball Stadium. This marks an important milestone in the players’ development and international exposure.
The team was finalised following a national selection process and a successful preparation camp held in Benoni from 14–16 June 2025. During the camp, players underwent focused sessions in tactical play, pitching, fielding, and game simulations. They will reconvene for a final pre-departure camp from 19–22 July before leaving for Taiwan on 23 July.
Head Coach Shawn Schwartz commented, “This group has worked hard, shown discipline, and developed tremendous chemistry. We’re not just going to compete—we’re going to represent South Africa with pride and purpose.”
The final travelling team includes: Quiwinn Adams, Kaleb Amos, Riley Coleman, Blaine Sawyer, Abulele Sotyato, Maahir Taliep, and Casey Uys (Western Cape); Luke Bailes (Eastern Cape); Troy Branders, Luke De Lange, Evan Grobler, Seth Hains, Nate Lerwill, Jarred Long, Mason Sage, and Sebastian Savides (Gauteng); and Rebone Mphahlele and Mosa Mphahlele (Limpopo).
The non-travelling reserves are Samkelo Sagwar and Jonathan Stacey (Gauteng), and Kaden Africa (Western Cape).
The management team is led by Head Coach Shawn Schwartz, with Quinton Amos and Alroy Savides as Assistant Coaches, and Anita Hains as Team Manager.
SABU President Marc Moreau added, “This team represents the future of South African baseball. We are proud of their achievements so far and confident they will carry our flag with honour on the world stage.”
