South Africa Names U23 National Team for African Qualifiers

The South African Baseball Union has officially announced the national U23 team that will represent the country at the upcoming U23 African Qualifiers, set to take place in Boksburg from 28 October to 2 November 2025.

The U23 African Qualifiers form part of an expanded international calendar for South African Baseball, which was originally announced on 18 June 2025, alongside several other major international tours and development initiatives aimed at strengthening South Africa’s presence on the global stage.

The 24-player squad brings together some of the most promising young talent from across the country, reflecting the continued growth of the game at provincial and national level.

Representing the Western Cape are Taariq Adams, Rowan Banfield, Tyron Brickhill, Quinn McKenzie, Stef van Duivenbooden and Joshua Williams.

From Gauteng, the team includes Jarrod Beukes, Joshua Botha, Ethan Grobler, Travis Hoffmann, Alex Levkov, Aiden McAllister, Shane McQuirk, Byrone Okes, Cullen Pieterse, Daniel Scheepers, Franco Scheffer, Aiden Schwartz, Kian Schwartz, Caelum Stroberg, Cayden White and Kyle Wiedeman.

Conner Stopforth from the Eastern Cape and Maredi Sylvester from Limpopo complete the national roster.

The team will be guided by an experienced management and coaching group:

  • Head of Delegation: Lindi Leigh Erasmus (Western Cape)
  • Team Mentor: Neil Adonis (Western Cape)
  • Head Coach: Liall Mauritz (Western Cape)
  • Assistant Coaches: Clive Pretorius (Gauteng), Braydon Bartle (Gauteng), Jono Viljoen (Eastern Cape), Theo Speelman (Western Cape)
  • Developing Coach: Daniel Mokgehle (Limpopo)

South Africa will open their campaign against Benin, as they look to secure victory in front of their home crowd and take an important step toward international qualification.

The South African Baseball Union extended its appreciation to all selectors, provincial associations, and coaches for their role in building this squad and supporting the national programme.
