South Africa U12 a big hit at the WBSC U12 World Cup


The curtain has now closed on the WBSC U12 Baseball World Cup in Taiwan, and by all accounts, this has been a very successful trip for our young men.

After months of preparation, our U12 side under the guidance of head coach Ian Griebenow the team took on the best in the world and came out smiling with an amazing experience for these young students of baseball.

The event itself has catered for juniors from all over the world playing their favourite sport in a world-class international arena and rubbing shoulders with some of the best baseball players in the world in their age group. With fans from all over the world able to enjoy the various games on live stream and highlights on YouTube our South African players certainly provided some enjoyable entertainment.

South Africa flew the flag high both on and off the field as they played against Panama, Mexico, Italy, Venezuela, Japan, the Czech Republic, and Chinese Taipei, all in good spirits and all in good health. Notably, it seemed our young stars were the hit of the tournament as the local fans flocked around the team to get pictures and autographs.

Assisted by Jonno Viljoen (Asst Coach), Clifford White (Asst Coach) and Duwane Peters (HOD) Coach Ian Griebenow did an amazing job of ensuring the players were enjoying every minute and ensuring that parents and supporters both locally and back home in South Africa were fully informed at all times.

The WBSC U12-Baseball World Cup concluded in Tainan, Taiwan with a ceremony illustrating a youthful spirit as the South African team joined in on the signing and dancing with much enthusiasm.
The overall result saw the USA, Venezuela, and Chinese Taipei take the top three podium positions respectively.
