South Africa Wins WBSC Africa U23 Baseball Championships

The WBSC Africa U23 Baseball Championships, hosted by South African Baseball, concluded today in Boksburg with South Africa crowned continental champions after a commanding 21–2 victory over Zimbabwe in the Championship Final.

The result completed an unbeaten campaign for the South Africa U23, who have positioned themselves to represent Africa at the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup 2026 in Nicaragua, pending official confirmation from WBSC Africa. South Africa displayed consistent quality throughout the final, scoring in every inning with totals of 3, 4, 6, 7, and 1, while limiting Zimbabwe to just two runs.

Earlier in the day, an Invitational Team comprising mostly U15 and U18 Elite Training Squad (ETS) players recorded a 15–10 victory over Benin in a development fixture that underscored the depth and promise within South Africa’s youth baseball structures.

Dr. Marc Moreau, President of the South African Baseball Union, commended the collaborative spirit demonstrated during the event.

“It is encouraging to see South Africa working alongside our international counterparts to further the development of baseball across Africa. The WBSC Africa Championships have once again demonstrated the value of cooperation in advancing the sport on the continent.”
Patrick van Niekerk, Vice President of the South African Baseball Union, extended his appreciation to all who contributed to the success of the tournament.
