South African Baseball Announces Historic International Series for Women’s Team

South African Baseball is proud to announce another international event, marking a historic milestone with the first-ever South African National Women & Girls Baseball Team (Combined U15-U18). This team will participate in an international series against Zimbabwe in a 3-game home and away series. The home series will take place in Gauteng from 22-27 August 2024, and the away series will be held in Zimbabwe in December 2024.

The event creates an amazing opportunity to showcase South African women in baseball, not only through participation in the series but also in the buildup. Various elite training squads (ETS) will be in action across the provinces, providing valuable coaching and administrative experience. This initiative also offers an incredible opportunity for various clubs to support the national team by making their facilities available.

South African Baseball President Mr. Marc Moreau expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Women’s baseball has been growing from strength to strength in South Africa, and the standard of women’s baseball at the recent National Baseball Championships held in Mandela Bay again showcased that. This series and the buildup to the event will see another opportunity to bring attention to the game and for women and girls to sign up at a club near them.”

ETS and national coaches for each province will be announced shortly by SABU.
