South African Baseball Union (SABU) is excited to host its first-ever “All Star Week”, taking place in Cape Town from 15 to 21 December 2024. This event serves as a national training camp, offering U18, U23, and Senior players a unique opportunity to train and compete against each other outside of the National Baseball Championships.
Held at Bothasig, Durbanville, and Bellville Baseball Clubs, the week features intensive high-performance training camps for nearly 100 of South Africa’s top players. The sessions focus on skill enhancement, strategic gameplay, and preparing athletes for the demands of a packed 2025 international schedule.
A standout feature of the event is the draft format, where players are selected by coaches to form four competitive teams. This format not only introduces an exciting strategic element but also allows players to work with new coaches and form bonds with teammates they might otherwise face as opponents during the season. These interactions foster camaraderie and contribute to a stronger, more united baseball community.
This event is a key part of SA Baseball’s long-term vision to elevate the playing standard to a level that can qualify South Africa for the LA Olympics in 2028. By combining rigorous training with competitive draft games, “All Star Week” provides players with a platform to develop their skills and prepares them to compete at the highest levels internationally. It’s a vital step in building a future where South African baseball achieves new milestones on the global stage.
