South African National Women’s Baseball Championships Final set for showdown

The stage is now set for the Senior Women’s final day at the South African National Baseball Championships 2026 in Boksburg, after the round robin phase came to a close on Day 3 and confirmed the pathway to the title.

Gauteng A have earned their place in the final after finishing top of the standings with 5 wins from 6 matches and 10 log points. Their Day 3 performances again showed why they have been the standout side in the division, first shutting out Cape Town A 3-0 and then powering past Gauteng B 26-4. Across the round robin, Gauteng A scored 78 runs and conceded only 24, giving them a strong run differential of 54 as they head into the title decider.

Coach Hayley Scott-Maree was full of praise for her side after securing top place, saying, “Today we played an awesome game, 7 innings in less than 2hrs, awesome pitching from current SA women players for a win to take Gauteng A to the final while CTBF play off against Gauteng U23-B side for the spot in the final.”

Tomorrow’s Senior Women fixtures will now see Cape Town A take on Gauteng B at 10h30, with the winner of that matchup advancing to face Gauteng A later in the day for the national title. That gives Gauteng A the advantage of having already secured their place in the final, while Cape Town A and Gauteng B must first battle through the playoff for the remaining place in the championship decider.

Both Cape Town A and Gauteng B ended the round robin on 4 log points, with Gauteng B finishing second on points difference and Cape Town A in third. That left the race behind Gauteng A extremely close and set up a fitting playoff on finals day between the two sides still chasing a place in the final.

After three days of hard-fought baseball, the women’s competition now moves into its biggest moment. Gauteng A have done the work to finish top and book their place in the final, but one more challenge still remains for whoever comes through the morning playoff.
