Team South Africa first leg concluded, team arrives in Regensburg, Germany WBC

After a number of months of preparation, this week saw the arrival of our South African side in Regensburg, Germany to play in the World Baseball Classic Qualifiers from 16 – 21 September 2022.

The first leg of the tour saw the team join up with their international counterparts in Stuttgart for just under a week where they were kindly hosted by the Stuttgart Reds. Many of the players from the squad are former teammates and although some have not played together for a while, the previous months have seen many online meetings to ensure the entire squad was fully united under one game plan.

This leg saw a number of practice matches and a final match against Germany, with all the activities pointing in the direction of a team ready to take on the world.

The opportunity to interact with our international counterparts has again highlighted the strength of our South African international relations with unsurpassed German hospitality, as the Stuttgart Reds and their management kindly supported the team on and off the field.

A heart-warming highlight for the squad was the opportunity to meet the local children for a meet and greet signing session, and meet a number of local South African fans who came out to meet their favourite team.

After the conclusion of the practice leg, the team departed for Regensberg to take part in the World Baseball Classic Qualifier where they would face their first match against Spain on the first day.
