South African Baseball is excited to celebrate the strong presence of young female talent at this year’s Junior National Baseball Championships in Cape Town. With seven teams competing in the Girls U15 and U18 divisions, and close to 90 players taking the field, it’s been incredible to see how Women in Baseball (WIB) is growing across the country.
Teams from Gauteng, Western Cape, and Free State are proudly flying the flag for women’s baseball, bringing energy, commitment, and plenty of talent to the national stage. The inclusion of both U15 and U18 divisions shows how much the game has progressed, and it’s clear there’s a bright future ahead for female players in South Africa.
Gauteng U18A has been a standout, going unbeaten in the round-robin with six wins and an impressive 90 runs scored. Their solid all-round performances have made them the team to beat. Western Cape has also stepped up with three strong teams in the mix. Their U18A side is sitting second, and their U15s are close behind in fourth place after a great showing over the past few days.
Gauteng U15A rounds out the top three, showing just how much depth is coming through in their development system. While the results haven’t gone the way of teams like Western Cape U18B, Gauteng U15B, and Free State, they’ve brought great spirit and determination, gaining experience and showing massive potential for the future.
There’s been a real buzz across the hosting venues—Lansdowne Eagles, VOB Macaws, and Battswood Baseball Club—with families, fans, and teammates getting behind these players. It’s been a reminder of what this tournament is all about: giving young athletes the platform to grow, compete, and be proud of their game.
Women in Baseball is clearly moving in the right direction. The level of play, the commitment from the provinces, and the passion shown on and off the field are all signs that we’re building something really special. These girls are not just here to play—they’re here to lead the way for the next generation.
As we head into the final day of the Junior NBC, South African Baseball wants to acknowledge every player, coach, parent, and volunteer who’s helped make this tournament a success. The future of Women in Baseball is bright, and we’re only just getting started.
