This weekend, Eastern Cape baseball enthusiasts are in for a thrilling treat as several clubs and schools gather at the Payne Yankees Stadium for an exciting event. Not only is this a celebration of baseball, but it also serves as a platform to promote Baseball 5, most likely South Africa’s fastest-growing sport.
The anticipation is high following the recent announcement of Ntokozo Makhubela, a local baseball hero, making the cut as a traveling reserve for the South African Baseball 5 team participating in the upcoming African Youth Championships in Ghana. Makhubela’s achievement further highlights the rising prominence of Baseball 5 within the country.
The Payne Yankees Stadium will welcome Utah Pirates Baseball Club, WSU Baseball Club, Khanyisa High School, Holy Cross High School, Zama High School, Qokolweni White Sox Baseball Club, and Lugxogxo Cardinals Baseball Club. These teams will engage in Baseball5 matches during the Home Run Baseball event.
This event not only serves as an exciting showcase of talent but also sets the stage for the Home run baseball festival later this year, organized by Hierarchy Management.
Payne Yankees Chairman Mkhululi Mhlana and Chairman of OR Tambo District Baseball Sinithemba Ndubatha have been instrumental in bringing this event to life. Additionally, the generous support from Hierarchy’s CEO and founder, Mila Mbambalala, has played a crucial role in its success by securing the support of Castle Lager and ABSA.
The event underscores the growing popularity of Baseball 5 in South Africa and its recognition as an Olympic sport.
The weekend promises to be an unforgettable experience for Payne Yankees Baseball Club and all baseball fans are encouraged to attend.
