This weekend sees the staging of the annual JENSS Tournament, bringing together five districts under one banner — Johannesburg Central, Easterns, Northern Gauteng, Sedibeng, and South West Gauteng.
The event, hosted at Benoni Indians Baseball Club, serves a dual purpose: celebrating participation across the province, while acting as the official selection platform for two provincial teams in each age group from U10 to U18. These teams will represent the Gauteng Province Baseball Council at next year’s SABU National Tournament in Boksburg.
Districts are either represented by full teams or, where needed, by players merged into other squads to ensure everyone takes part. The spirit of inclusion is central to JENSS.
Beyond the competition, the event features a dedicated outreach programme, providing water, cold drinks, and meals to disadvantaged children and families — ensuring no one is left out due to circumstance.
With 40 fixtures scheduled across Saturday and Sunday, the tournament spans all junior age groups and includes Women in Baseball, with five or six teams taking to the field on Sunday.
The JENSS Tournament continues to grow in scale and impact, combining provincial performance with community values — making it one of Gauteng Baseball’s standout annual events.
