After many months of preparation, our South African Baseball U-12 Baseball World Cup Team members were this week bestowed their official colours before departure for the WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup.
The colours award ceremonies traditionally known as capping ceremonies took place simultaneously across our various provinces with selected athletes and management proudly awarded their national colours.
The Cape Town contingency was presided over by The President of South African Baseball Mr Marc Moreau and Gauteng by Vice President Mr Patrick van Niekerk while Mandela Bay saw coach Jonno Viljoen and various other South African Baseball guests in attendance.
The capping ceremonies highlighted yet another proud moment for South African Baseball with the athletes, parents and team management celebrating the occasion together with a number of current and former national athletes bringing further honour to the moment.
The occasion comes after many months of preparation with the U-12 elite training squads across our various provinces including training camps, match practice and several online sessions with parents, coaches and administrators. The build-up has seen an all-hands-on deck approach from South African Baseball as coaching staff went the extra mile, and was kindly supported by parents and volunteers in all locations.
President of South African Baseball Mr Marc Moreau who recently returned from the World Baseball and Softball Congress in Taiwan congratulated the players on their achievement and sent a message to all selected players saying: “ South African Baseball is extremely proud of your achievement, we wish you the very best and to enjoy every moment as the world watches you make South Africa proud, remember to always have fun while you are playing Baseball.”
The team shortly departs for Tainan, Taiwan where they will compete for the title of World Champion in the sixth edition of the Youth World Baseball Championships from 29 July 2022 – 7 August 2022.
